Meghalaya records fifth-lowest pass percentage in NEET entrance exam results

Meghalaya has garnered attention for securing the fifth-lowest pass percentage in the country in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).Following the announcement of the medical entrance exam results by the National Testing Agency (NTA), data from the Ministry of Education revealed that out of the 3,815 candidates who appeared for the exam in Meghalaya, only 1,837 successfully passed, constituting a pass percentage of 48.15, ranking it fifth-lowest nationwide.

Kashish Samee, hailing from the General category, clinched the top spot in Meghalaya’s results, securing a rank of 3,732.During the exam administration, concerns were raised regarding discrepancies at least two examination centers in Jowai and Nongpoh. However, it remains uncertain whether these issues had any impact on the overall results.

It is worth noting that Meghalaya witnessed a pass rate of 49.01 per cent in the previous year, 2023.Additionally, reported irregularities encompassed the distribution of two different sets of exam papers, failure to collect admit cards, and inadequate instructions provided to students. Allegedly, these shortcomings led to some individuals being unable to complete the test. In the year 2024, Meghalaya’s pass percentage surpassed that of Assam, which recorded a pass percentage of 47.71 per cent, as well as Madhya Pradesh with 45.67 per cent, Mizoram with 47.75 per cent, and Tripura with a pass percentage of 47.31.
