Meghalaya government to support unemployed youths in securing overseas jobs

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced a new initiative on Friday aimed at helping unemployed youths secure job opportunities abroad. At a job fair focused on overseas placements, Sangma revealed that the state government will subsidize up to Rs 50,000 for training fees and provide support with visa and other paperwork to connect youths with reputable agencies.

Sangma highlighted that this initiative addresses labor shortages in developed countries, which are facing an aging population and insufficient young workers. “India, with its youthful population, presents an opportunity to fill this gap. By providing our youth with proper training and documentation support, we can send job-ready individuals to countries like Japan, Singapore, and the UK,” he said.

The Chief Minister outlined the potential benefits, including financial stability for the youths and an increase in the state’s foreign exchange earnings. The plan aims to place 1,000 youths in these countries, where they could earn approximately Rs 1.2 lakh per month. Specifically, 27 youths are expected to be placed in Japan, 44 in Singapore, and 50 in the UK.
