Hundreds of deficit school teachers and non-teaching employees staged a rally in Shillong on Friday,
demanding immediate resolution of their long-pending issues and protection of the deficit school system.
The rally, organised by the Khasi-Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association in association with the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association, began from the MBOSE office, passed through Barik Point and culminated at Madan Malki.
The protesters carried placards demanding implementation of the 2023 scheme and opposing the 2026 scheme, while calling for an end to confusion and arbitrary decisions.
The rally was held after the associations said the Government failed to respond to their request for a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Their demands include implementation of CPF and NPS, release of pending DA, filling up vacant deficit posts, restoration of the Board of Trustees, salary regularisation and implementation of MACPS.
The associations have welcomed the Government’s September 17 withdrawal of the August 12 notification but have sought clarification on provisions they fear could affect the deficit school system.
