The Meghalaya BJP on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Central Government for acknowledging the contribution of Meghalaya to the national cause by awarding the coveted Padma Shri to Hally War for his dedication towards building and nurturing living root bridges, a heritage as well as symbol of our state. With this award, the BJP led Government at the Centre has brought into spotlight Meghalaya’s ancient wisdom and an engineering technique that creates no pollution. In a press note, Meghalaya BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkhrang said, as we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Central team, we are certain that consequent to War’s fame and recognition, our state’s unique nature friendly approach will become a role model for the entire nation, creating a sustainable future for India.
Meghalaya BJP also appreciated the fact that War’s award comes in quick succession to Kong Silbi Passah’s Padma Shri, conferred to her in 2024. It’s worth mentioning that the prime ministered had recently referred to Meghalaya’s Eri Silk in one of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ addresses, giving the traditional fabric the title of non-violent silk owing to the distinctive nature of harvest.
“Meghalaya’s living root bridge technique, rich folk culture and silk are reflections of ancient knowledge, prudence and skills. However, the state’s rich heritage had until now been systematically ignored by previous Central Governments. The Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the Central team on the other hand continue to recognize the state’s impressive legacy. Reason why, we extend our gratitude yet again”, Kharkrang said.
