A new life’s dream was left incomplete. Indian Army Major Hamza Arif had tied the knot just a month ago. But while returning to the military camp after completing his duty, a horrific road accident took his life. Major Hamza died in this accident in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer. Two lieutenants travelling with him were seriously injured.
The accident occurred on Thursday night around 12:30 AM in a military area at Thaiyat, about 18 km from Jaisalmer district headquarters.
According to reports, Major Hamza Arif, Lieutenant Abhinav Rathore and Lieutenant Ayushman were returning to the military camp after finishing duty. Major Hamza was driving the Army’s Tata Safari. At that time, in the darkness, a camel suddenly came onto the road and the vehicle crashed into it at high speed.
Due to the impact of the collision, the Safari overturned several times and skidded for nearly 100 meters on the road before coming to a halt. Major Hamza Arif died on the spot. The two lieutenants were seriously injured. The camel also died in the accident.
Hearing the sound of the crash, locals rushed to the spot. Soon after, the Border Security Force, police and rescue teams also arrived and launched a rescue operation. After the two injured officers were sent to the military hospital, doctors declared Major Hamza dead.
Lieutenant Abhinav Rathore and Lieutenant Ayushman are currently undergoing treatment at the military hospital. According to doctors, both are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, Major Hamza’s mortal remains have been sent to Jaisalmer’s Government Jawahar Hospital for post-mortem. His body will be brought to Indore on Saturday and the last rites will be performed with full military honors.
It may be noted that Major Hamza had started his married life just a month ago. He had rejoined duty only a few days after his wedding. As per reports, Major Hamza’s father is also a former officer in the Indian Army.
Police said that an investigation into the accident is underway. Initial inquiry revealed that the tragic accident occurred after a camel belonging to a local farmer suddenly came onto the road.
