Major boost to Meghalaya Police as dept gets 240 new vehicles

Meghalaya Police received a major boost on Thursday with the induction of 240 new vehicles aimed at improving mobility, response time, and overall policing across the state, particularly at the grassroots level. Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Idashisha Nongrang described the occasion as a “very big day” for the force, stating that the new fleet would address a long-standing need. She said the police department had been struggling with an ageing fleet for years and expressed confidence that the vehicles would significantly enhance operational efficiency.

According to the DGP, around 176 of the vehicles will be deployed to police stations and outposts across Meghalaya, helping improve reach and response time in various parts of the state. Nongrang further said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader plan to modernize the police force. Besides mobility, the modernization drive will also focus on improving police infrastructure, buildings, equipment, and technology to make the force more effective in tackling present-day challenges. She also thanked the state government for its continued support and commitment towards strengthening Meghalaya Police.
