Several community leaders and residents of Elaka Nongkhlieh, including former Secretary of Elaka Nongkhlieh Willingson Sukhlain, on July 31, expressed strong support for the proposed Shree Cement Plat during the public hearing conducted by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), citing its potential to boost economic development and create employment opportunities for local youth.
Speaking at the hearing, Mr. Nangiaid Pashiang said the people of Bamkhosngi Village welcomed the proposed project and viewed the region’s limestone resources as a valuable asset for development. He stated that the project could provide much-needed employment opportunities, particularly at a time when government jobs are limited, and claimed that an overwhelming majority of the villagers support the initiative.
Waheh Shnong of Tongseng Nongkhlieh, Mr. Pynpoibiang Dkhar, also extended his support for the proposed limestone mining project. He expressed confidence that the initiative would help address unemployment by creating jobs and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth of the Elaka.
General Secretary of the Elaka, Mr. Fencing Bareh, said the proposed project has received broad public support from the people of the Elaka. He noted that he stands by the collective views and aspirations of the community regarding the project.
Dolloi of Elaka Nongkhlieh, Mr. N. Sukhkain, stated that the people of the Elaka have accepted the proposed Shree Cement project and expressed hope that work would commence at the earliest. He said the project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.
The public hearing reflected widespread optimism among supporters, who believe the proposed project has the potential to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and open new opportunities for the local community while contributing to the region’s overall development.
