Harmanpreet Kaur has officially relinquished her role as captain of the Indian women’s cricket team across all formats, effective immediately. Having served as T20 skipper since 2016 and taking over the full ODI and Test leadership in 2022, the 37-year-old shared an extensive statement noting that stepping away is a tough choice carrying a lifetime of sacrifices, though she remains eager to continue playing for the love of the game. Throughout her illustrious captaincy spanning 5 Tests, 51 ODIs, and an unprecedented 155 T20Is, Kaur cemented her place in history by joining Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as the third Indian captain to lift a 50-over World Cup, achieved last November on home soil. Her golden tenure also comprised back-to-back Asian Games gold medals in 2022 and 2026, a 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medal, and stellar T20 World Cup campaigns that saw India finish as runners-up in 2020 and semi-finalists in 2018 and 2023.
