Meghalaya’s young singer Kitkupar Nongsiej received a warm welcome on his return from the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 in Las Vegas, USA, after bringing home three gold and two bronze medals while representing India on the international stage. Competing in the 18–24 years Vocalist category, Nongsiej secured gold medals in the Jazz and Pop categories, another gold for finishing in the Top 5, and bronze medals in the Original Work and Gospel categories.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Nongsiej expressed gratitude to God, his supporters and the Meghalaya government for standing by him throughout his journey. He also thanked Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for his encouragement. Reflecting on his achievement, he said, “Representing India at an international stage is already a big win for me. Even though I didn’t win the Grand Champion title, I’m very happy and grateful to return with three gold and two bronze medals and to be among the Top 5 in my category.”
Sharing a message for aspiring artists and young people across the country, Nongsiej urged them to remain committed to their goals. “To the youth of Meghalaya and the whole of India, work hard, be humble, stay focused and never give up. Never stop chasing your dreams,” he said. His success at WCOPA 2026 has been hailed as a proud moment for both Meghalaya and India, highlighting the state’s growing presence on the global performing arts stage.
