IOC expands Let’s Move campaign in India, targets 4 million students through sports initiative

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in partnership with the AbhinavBindra Foundation and Reliance Foundation, has launched the latest edition of its “You Can Do This! Let’s Move” campaign, expanding its reach across India as part of efforts to promote physical activity and youth development through sport.

The initiative, which begins on Olympic Day on June 23, builds on the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) and follows two years of campaigns that have already engaged more than 20 million young people nationwide. This year, the programme will be extended to five territories—Odisha, Assam, Chandigarh, Telangana and Meghalaya—with organisers aiming to engage approximately four million students through sports, yoga and classroom-based activities.

The campaign comes amid growing concerns over physical inactivity. According to the World Health Organization, 74 per cent of Indian children and adolescents and 49 per cent of adults do not meet recommended physical activity levels. Organisers say the initiative seeks to address barriers such as self-doubt while promoting confidence, resilience and overall well-being through sports participation.

Reliance Foundation will further expand the programme to around 1,800 Anganwadis and nearly 44,000 children across the country. The foundation said Olympians and leading athletes, including hurdler JyothiYarraji, will participate in outreach efforts to inspire young people.

In Shillong, Meghalaya’s inclusion in the expanded programme is expected to strengthen investments in grassroots sports development, school-based fitness activities and community engagement. The initiative could create new opportunities for sports-related programmes and partnerships in the state, while supporting the growing interest in youth wellness, education and sports infrastructure across Shillong and other parts of Meghalaya.

Community running clubs across India will also join Olympic Day celebrations through symbolic 20-minute and 28-second runs linked to the upcoming LA28 Olympic Games, further extending the campaign’s outreach and visibility.
