Flipkart Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB) under its Flipkart Samarth Krishiprogramme to strengthen market linkages and create new sourcing opportunities for farmers in the state. The partnership aims to provide direct market access for Meghalaya’s fresh produce, including pineapples, by connecting farmers with consumers across India through digital commerce.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Under the agreement, Flipkart will assist MSAMB in product quality guidance, demand-based quantity planning and onboarding into its digital commerce ecosystem. In return, MSAMB will facilitate training and capacity-building programmes for farmer groups under the state agriculture department.
Flipkart Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Rajneesh Kumar said the initiative would help strengthen farm-to-market linkages, improve farmer incomes and expand access to national markets. MSAMB Chairman Dr Vijay Kumar D said the collaboration would enhance farmer mobilisation, improve quality standards and create sustainable market opportunities for Meghalaya’s horticultural produce.
In Shillong, the partnership is expected to provide a major boost to the city’s agricultural trade ecosystem by improving market access for growers from across Meghalaya. With better digital connectivity and streamlined supply chains, farmers supplying produce through Shillong are likely to benefit from wider national demand, while local aggregation, logistics and value-chain activities could receive fresh momentum.
The collaboration is part of Flipkart Samarth Krishi, a nationwide initiative that has supported more than 10,000 farmers by strengthening connections between agricultural producer groups and national markets through digital commerce.
