The central body of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) along with its Sohra Circle on Tuesday met Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh to express concern over the operation of trucks from outside the state in limestone transportation at Majai Land Custom Station (LCS) in Shella.
The organisation also raised the issue of alleged exploitation of local youths employed by security agencies from outside the state.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, FKJGP Sohra Circle president Carlos Kharmih said the CEM informed them that the council could not take any action regarding the operation of outside trucks as the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Transport Department.
Meanwhile, FKJGP central body assistant secretary Reginald Thabah said the CEM told them that the KHADC was “helpless” in dealing with outside security agencies because local security firms were not participating in tenders floated for providing security services in central government educational institutions and other central government departments having branch offices in the state.
