Conrad Sangma Leads Mega NPP Meeting to Strategize for Upcoming Autonomous Council and Manipur Polls

The National People’s Party (NPP) convened its high-level National Committee Meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday at the Orchid Resort in New Shillong Township. Under the leadership of Party President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the convention brought together senior leaders, office bearers, and lawmakers from across the country to outline the party’s future political strategy, organizational expansion, and electoral preparedness.

Central to the AGM was the adoption of several key resolutions under the party’s strategic vision document, “Northeast 2047: Gateway to Prosperity.” The NPP firmly reiterated its dedication to safeguarding indigenous rights, promoting regional peace, and fostering inclusive development. Notably, the party called for a transparent and time-bound framework for the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), urging a balance between national security and the operational freedom of genuine civil society organizations serving remote areas.

Addressing the gathering, Conrad K. Sangma expressed strong optimism about evolving the NPP from a regional powerhouse into a prominent national entity. Highlighting the presence of delegates from over 14 states, Sangma noted that growing nationwide participation reflects deep public confidence in the party’s people-centric governance model. He emphasized that despite localized challenges in states like Manipur, the party sees immense potential to strengthen its grassroots engagement and deliver stable, accountable representation.

The AGM also serves as a crucial launchpad for immediate political battles, with leaders reviewing preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election in Meghalaya, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, and the future Manipur Assembly polls. Driven by its foundational motto, “One Voice, One Northeast,” the NPP concluded the session with an explicit call to its youth, women, and farmers’ fronts to aggressively expand outreach and streamline grassroots operations across India.
