Meghalaya suspends official foreign tour for ministers, MLAs and govt officials for 6 months

The Meghalaya Government has suspended all officially funded foreign visits by Ministers, MLAs and government officials for six months as part of anausterity drive. Eight proposed overseas study tours involving around 63-68 officials have been deferred to prioritise public expenditure and developmentcommitments. In a notification, the govt said, "In public interest and for complying with austerity measures, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to order that all official foreign visits of Ministers of the Government of Meghalaya, MLAs and officials (permanent or contractual) of the State Government shall be kept on hold for a period of 6 months with effect from the date of issue of this order." The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has directed the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) to initiate disciplinary action against an Under-23 women's cricket team coach and manager after finding that their conduct amounted to sexual harassment under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The commission's June 5 order follows a complaint filed by six women cricketers, who accused coach Hemant Roy and assistant manager Sanjay Mondal of verbal harassment, inappropriate remarks and private communication through WhatsApp. According to the MSCW, the players had first raised the matter with MCA officials in December last year, but no action was taken. The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday disposed of an appeal by St. Edmund's School, Shillong, after the school and the parents of afive-year-old student reached an amicable settlement over the child's KG admission. The court set aside its earlier single-judge order of May 22, 2026, and noted that the child has been readmitted as a regular student from June 8, and directed that all related legal proceedings, social media posts and publications be withdrawn in the child's larger interest. The state government has decided to terminate the contract of SAI Computer Ltd, which was entrusted to manage power supply in Mawsynram, Ranikor and Mawphlang constituencies, according to the National People’s Party (NPP). James K Sangma set for unopposed election to Rajya Sabha from Meghalaya

National People’s Party leader and MDA-II candidate James K Sangma is set to be elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Meghalaya after he emerged as the lone candidate to file nomination papers for the June 18 election. Scrutiny of nomination papers for the state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat was conducted Tuesday at the Assembly Secretariat. Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary Malthus S Sangma found James K Sangma’s papers “completely in order and accepted” them, officials said.
