Meghalaya Advances Governance Reforms in Autonomous District Councils

Reforms in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) are in an advanced stage, with service rules expected to be ready for implementation by September 1, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on Tuesday. He stated that nearly 18 service rules for various departments in each council are being finalised in coordination with the state finance teams. The Chief Minister said the reforms are part of an administrative and financial restructuring process agreed upon by the GHADC and JHADC in return for financial support from the state government to address salary arrears and other liabilities. Army okays alignment of 4-lane Rilbong-Barik road

The Army has approved the alignment of the proposed four-lane road from Rilbong to Barik, clearing a major hurdle in the crucial urban infrastructure project. Informing this on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said he would meet Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to push for final approval of the project. The Meghalaya High Court on Monday upheld a Shillong court's April 2026 order granting bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last year. A single bench of Justice W. Diengdoh dismissed the state government's appeal challenging the bail order.
