Development projects in Meghalaya under central schemes are moving ahead, but not at the same pace everywhere. A latest monthly report of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) shows a mixed picture, with some projects completed while many others are yet to begin. According to the report, the state currently has 83 ongoing projects. Out of these, 41 are under the North Eastern Council (NEC), which forms the largest share. Another 30 projects fall under the NESIDS (OTRI) scheme, while a few others are linked to road development and PM-DevINE programmes. The Meghalaya High Court has set aside a POCSO case registered in West Khasi Hills, taking into account the social background of the relationship and the present condition of the woman and her children. The case goes back to 2021, when an FIR was filed at Mawshynrut Police Station under Sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case was registered after a teenage pregnancy was reported. At that time, the girl was around 16 years old, while the man was about 25 to 26 years old. One man named Elias Kurbah drowned while taking bath in Umtrew river along with his two friends at Umran Dairy in Ri-Bhoi district on Sunday. His friends tried to rescue the person from Mawprem, Shillong, but were unsuccessful. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM. Police, along with the State Response Team (SRT) from Shillong and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services in Nongpoh, rushed to the spot and later retrieved the body. The body was shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital morgue. It was subsequently handed over to the family after they declined a post-mortem examination.

The Meghalaya government has announced a set of road renamings across the state, with immediate effect, according to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (B). Under the changes, “Blessed Mother Teresa” road will now be known as “Saint Teresa Road”, while “Rev Nichol’s Roy Road” has been corrected and renamed “Rev. J.J.M Nichols Roy Road”. The PWD road stretch from Thorika Rabha to Nibari has been renamed “Utpal Rabha Road”. Authorities have also renamed “Pasyih Garampani Road (P.G Road)” as “Phramer–Shangpung–Saphai Road”.
