A review meeting on the redevelopment of Tura town was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in the presence of Cabinet Ministers Timothy D. Shira and Sanbor Shullai. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and discussed the plan for upcoming works to be implemented in phases. Ongoing projects with a total investment of over Rs 1331 crore were reviewed. Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari on Tuesday said the Election Department is fully prepared to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Meghalaya once the schedule is announced by the Election Commission of India. Speaking to reporters, Tiwari said the department was awaiting official notification from the Commission and assured that the revision process would be conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines. The hearing on the Meghalaya government’s plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi in the sensational Raja Raghuvanshi murder case was scheduled to be taken up on Tuesday, May 12. However, the matter was deferred after lawyers involved in the case requested additional time before the court. On Tuesday’s proceedings, counsel appearing in the matter sought a fresh date for further arguments, following which the court fixed the next hearing for May 18. The Meghalaya government has challenged the earlier bail order granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, arguing that the case involves serious allegations and that the investigation remains sensitive.
