Assam-Meghalaya tension: Cab services hit, commuters stranded

The situation along the Assam-Meghalaya border remains tense for the second consecutive day on Friday, with restrictions on inter-state cab movement causing difficulties for commuters.

No Assam-registered cabs are currently being allowed to enter Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya-registered commercial cabs have also reportedly been stopped near Umiam, with only local taxis being allowed to operate in the area.

The Meghalaya Cab Association has also called for a bandh, announcing that no tourist vehicles with Meghalaya registration will operate today.

Only local taxis will remain functional.

The restrictions have disrupted transportation between the two states, leaving several commuters and passengers facing difficulties.

Tensions have escalated following the recent attacks on vehicles in Shillong during the Khasi Students Union black flag rally.

Authorities and the administrations of both Assam and Meghalaya are closely monitoring the situation and are working continuously to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of passengers and drivers.

Chief ministers of both states have spoken over the phone on the matter.
