
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise) of West Jaintia Hills, Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS, has ordered the closure of liquor outlets along the Assam-Meghalaya border during the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam. All wine shops, bars, canteens, and outstills in the border areas will remain closed from 5:00 PM on April 7 until 5:00 PM on April 9, 2026.
The restriction will be reimposed on May 4, 2026, the counting day, starting 5:00 PM and continuing until the completion of the counting process. The administration has directed strict enforcement of the order, with intensive checks, raids, and preventive measures to ensure compliance.The directive also covers any re-poll dates, if announced.
