Two Girls from Meghalaya Saved from Alleged Trafficking Network in Delhi–Haryana

Two Khasi-Pnar girls from Meghalaya were rescued from a suspected human trafficking racket operating in Delhi–Haryana through a joint operation by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit and the Special Police Unit for Northeast Region (SPUNER). The victims, aged 15 and 18, are residents of East Jaintia Hills district. According to sources, they were allegedly lured to Delhi by an acquaintance from Meghalaya with promises of jobs as domestic helpers, without informing their parents.

However, upon reaching Delhi, the girls were reportedly taken to a spa in Haryana, where they were subjected to exploitation. The situation came to light after the victims managed to contact their families, who then alerted the KSU Delhi Unit. Acting swiftly, the KSU coordinated with SPUNER, leading to a rescue operation in Haryana. The two girls were successfully traced and rescued from the suspected trafficking network. KSU Delhi Unit president Marbiang Khongwir said the incident highlights the growing risks faced by youths seeking employment outside the state. He urged both parents and young people to remain cautious of fraudulent job offers.

The union expressed gratitude to SPUNER officials, authorities at Meghalaya House, and members of the rescue team for their prompt response and coordination. Officials stated that arrangements are currently being made for counselling and the safe return of the victims to their families in Meghalaya. The KSU also acknowledged the support of Kyrmen Shylla, who facilitated the travel arrangements to ensure the girls could return home safely.
