Two Australian cricket players were harassed in Indore; they were arrested by police

Two Australian women cricket players were allegedly stalked and one of them groped by a man riding a motorcycle in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. This unsettling occurrence has sparked grave worries about player safety. The event happened on October 23, two days prior to Australia’s match versus South Africa for the top spot in the league. The two cricket players were going toward a local café on Khajrana Road after leaving their hotel, the Radisson Blu, when a man on a motorcycle started to pursue them, according to the police.

Aqeel Khan, the accused, is accused of improperly touching one of the players before driving off. The cricket players promptly notified their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who notified local liaison officers and made arrangements for a car to securely transport them back, according to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi of the MIG police station. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra moved quickly to meet with the players, record their statements, and file a complaint under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking).

A motorcycle accident in India has led to the arrest of a man with multiple criminal cases. The incident has sparked debates on women’s safety in public spaces, with ultramarathon runner Ashwini Ganapathi calling for stronger accountability. The Australian team is currently stationed in Indore, and local police are coordinating with Cricket Australia to enhance security measures for all international teams participating in the World Cup.
