Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the new Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) office at Dakopgre, Tura, in West Garo Hills, highlighting the facility’s potential to significantly benefit youths in the region by bringing recruitment exams and interviews closer to home. Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma pointed out that candidates from Garo Hills previously had to undertake 10–15 hour overnight journeys to Shillong, often arriving exhausted and having to appear for exams without proper rest. “Many would arrive tired and go straight to the exam hall. With this new facility, students can now give their exams and interviews right here in Tura,” he said, emphasizing the positive impact on candidates’ performance and overall well-being.
The Chief Minister announced that the first MPSC examination in Tura will be held on November 14, 2025, marking a new chapter in making public service recruitment more accessible to aspirants from the region. He also revealed plans to extend similar facilities to Jaintia Hills to ensure equitable access across Meghalaya. Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, described the inauguration as a landmark moment, stating it “heralds a new chapter in the journey of transparent, accountable, and people-centric governance.”
The ceremony was attended by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, MPSC (Tura) Chairman Abraham T. Momin, and officials from various government departments. The new office is expected to ease the recruitment process for candidates from Garo Hills by conducting examinations, interviews, and other recruitment activities locally, reducing the need to travel to Shillong and ensuring greater convenience and accessibility.
