Tura District Magistrate enforces water conservation measures under section 144 to combat crisis

In response to the alarming water shortage plaguing Tura Municipality, the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Tura, has taken decisive action under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The order aims to address the pressing need for water conservation and efficient utilization of dwindling water resources within the area. Effective immediately, the order mandates strict regulations on car wash activities within the Tura Municipality. Car wash servicing is now permitted only on Mondays and Thursdays, with a stern prohibition on the use of bore wells by car wash servicing centers. This measure is crucial to alleviate the strain on water sources and ensure equitable distribution during the crisis.

In addition to these regulations, the public is urged to adopt proactive water conservation practices both at the household level and within their communities. With a call to action during periods of water scarcity, citizens are encouraged to minimize water usage and refrain from unnecessary activities such as car washing, which exacerbate the demand for water.

This order, effective until May 15, 2024, exclusively applies to the Tura Municipality area. It underscores the district administration’s commitment to addressing the water crisis through proactive measures and community cooperation. By implementing these regulations and fostering a culture of responsible water usage, Tura aims to mitigate the impact of the crisis and ensure a sustainable water supply for its residents.
