Trump announces TikTok deal with China

US President Donald Trump declared that TikTok would be permitted to continue functioning in China after an agreement was made with the government. “The United States of America’s and China’s major trade meeting in Europe has gone VERY WELL!. Additionally, an agreement was reached on a “certain” enterprise that our nation’s youth fervently desired to preserve. “They’ll be overjoyed!” he wrote. Trump also stated that the “relationship remains a very strong one!!!”

To resolve bilateral trade difficulties, senior US and Chinese teams met in Madrid for two days. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and leading trade negotiator Li Chenggang oversaw the negotiations on the Chinese side, while US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer headed the American side. Bessent confirmed the TikTok deal in a Madrid media conference following Trump’s announcement.

“To finalize the agreement, President Trump and party head Xi will speak. However,” he disclosed, “we do have a framework for a deal with TikTok.” He acknowledged that “terms have been agreed upon,” but he would not publicly reveal the “commercial terms of the deal” between the two sides. The tentative agreement with China on TikTok was deemed “remarkable” by the US Trade Representative.

The truth is that, in only a few days, we might reach a consensus on a contentious and difficult matter like the TikTok divestment. To be able to come, sit down fast, identify the concerns, narrow them down to a very granular point, and be able to arrive at a conclusion subject to the leader’s permission was necessary after months and weeks had passed. “I mean, that is amazing,” Greer continued. ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, had until September 17 to sell off its US business or risk being shut down. Regarding the TikTok agreement, the Chinese side has not yet released a statement.
