Mawlynnong, recognized as Asia’s cleanest village in Meghalaya, will implement a closure for one-day tourists on Sundays starting January 2026. The Dorbar Shnong (village council) announced this decision due to the local community’s commitment to attending religious services throughout the day, which limits their ability to provide services to tourists. While all tourism-related activities, including restaurants, shops, and public toilets, will be closed on Sundays, overnight guests who check in on Sunday nights or have extended their stay from weekdays will still be allowed. The village will remain open to visitors from Monday to Saturday.
