The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has finalised plans to establish a new cricket ground in Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills District. Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, the West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association (WJHDCA), and MCA inked a tripartite leasing deal for a 5.93-acre plot of land on January 4. This move is in line with MCA’s initiatives to promote indigenous talent and increase cricket infrastructure throughout Meghalaya’s districts, especially in rural regions.
With the assistance of Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun and local MLA Wailad Shylla, a fervent supporter of cricket in the area, WJHDCA was able to accomplish the property acquisition. Key participants, including WJHDCA President Eddystone Shylla, MLA Wailad Shylla, and MCA officials Naba Bhattacharjee, Rayonald Kharkamni, Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, and Secretary Weibor Sohlang, were present when the deal was signed.
MCA President Naba Bhattacharjee praised the land’s excellent location, which is conveniently close to the highway, and thanked Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun for their assistance. The land’s suitability for a typical cricket ground was established by the site examination conducted before the agreement. Soon, the neighborhood will have all the amenities needed to promote cricket growth, in addition to a nearby football stadium that is currently being built.
