Meghalaya government approves Rs 10 crore for constructing 35 new hatcheries

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma declared on March 6 that the Meghalaya government had allocated Rs 10 crore for the construction of 35 more fish hatcheries in order to increase fish production in the state. There will be 96 hatcheries in Meghalaya after the construction project is finished, which is expected to start soon. Presently, 24.7 million fingerlings are produced yearly by the state's 61 hatcheries. Fish production in the state has increased from 4,000 metric tons to 20,000 metric tons, demonstrating the efficacy of the aquaculture goal, according to Sangma. Meghalaya raises FY 2024 education budget by 14%

The Meghalaya government has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering the education sector by increasing budget for the department by 14% for FY 2024. In order to increase access to higher education, the state intends to open eight or nine additional government institutions in a variety of subject areas. "We will be having almost close to 8-9 new government colleges in different disciplines being activated this year itself in terms of higher and technical education," stated Conrad K. Meghalaya received approval from the NMC to initiate MBBS courses

This comes after the PA Sangma International Medical College at the University of Science and Technology. Meghalaya has received approval from the National Medical Commission to initiate MBBS courses.
