While the high pass percentage in the SSLC examinations has been widely celebrated across the state, it has also presented a significant challenge for the state government insofar as accommodating the surge of students seeking admission into Class XI is concerned. This year, a total of 55,475 students passed the SSLC examinations, surpassing the state’s existing Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) capacity of 51,000 seats.
To bridge the gap, the East Khasi Hills district administration convened a meeting on April 14 with heads of all educational institutions offering Plus Two (HSSLC) courses. During the meeting, the district administration appealed to the heads of institutions to enhance their student intake without compromising the quality of education.
Following the discussion, several schools revised their intake capacity. As a result, the total intake capacity of 162 Higher Secondary Schools in East Khasi Hills has now been increased to 23,386 seats.
