Supreme Court addresses NEET-UG petition from Meghalaya students

The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of a petition filed by students who sat for the NEET-UG exam at a center in Meghalaya, where they reportedly lost 45 minutes of exam time. These students are seeking inclusion in the group of 1,563 candidates who were granted grace marks and given the opportunity to retake the exam on June 23. In response, the apex court has issued notices to the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for these pleas on July 8, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the students’ grievances promptly. This development underscores the court’s recognition of the urgency in resolving the issue affecting the exam candidates.

In a related matter, the Supreme Court has also taken up a petition filed by the NTA, requesting the transfer of all NEET-UG 2024-related cases from various High Courts to the apex court. The Supreme Court has put a stay on the proceedings in these cases before the High Courts, clarifying that this will not hinder the ongoing counseling process for NEET-UG candidates.
