Shree Cement is expanding its sustainability-driven community development initiatives in Meghalaya, reinforcing its environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments through investments in solar-powered education infrastructure, rural electrification and clean energy solutions.
The company, one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, has partnered with the GHE Foundation and local stakeholders to implement integrated development projects across remote communities in the East Jaintia Hills region. The initiatives are aimed at improving educational outcomes, enhancing energy access and promoting sustainable living practices.
As part of its education-focused programme, Shree Cement established solar-powered smart classrooms and computer laboratories in seven schools during FY26. The facilities are expected to benefit nearly 3,000 students and 117 teachers by providing reliable access to digital learning tools and curriculum-aligned educational content despite limited grid connectivity.
The company has also supported solar microgrid installations that have provided electricity access to 250 households across 12 villages. The electrification projects offer dependable lighting and mobile charging facilities, helping improve productivity and living standards in underserved areas.
In addition, Shree Cement facilitated the adoption of solar-powered clean cooking solutions in 151 households across 10 villages through rooftop solar systems and electric pressure cookers. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on firewood, improve indoor air quality and support climate-friendly household practices.
