Shillong Lajong secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Laitkor in the Shillong Premier League at SSA Stadium, Polo, on Tuesday, moving up to second place in the league standings. The team’s solid defence and consistent attacking play were key to the win.
Deibormame Tongper opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a well-timed header from a free-kick, marking his first appearance of the season. The second goal came in the 74th minute from substitute Emanbha Marbaniang, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Laitkor to seal the victory.
Laitkor had early opportunities to take the lead, with Freelyson Tariang striking the crossbar in the second minute and missing a close-range chance shortly after. Lajong also threatened the goal in the 19th minute when Iohbor L Lyngkhoi’s long-range shot hit the upright.
The match shifted decisively in Lajong’s favour in the 66th minute when Laitkor’s Richarles Rani was shown a direct red card for a foul and dissent. Despite a penalty save by Laitkor goalkeeper Deranius Wahlang, Marbaniang’s goal ensured that Lajong maintained their advantage.
