Revati Prashant Mohite Dere Appointed As Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

The Meghalaya High Court is set to get a new Chief Justice with Justice Revati Prashant Mohite Dere being appointed to the post following a presidential order issued on January 1, 2026.

Justice Revati, who is currently serving as a judge of the Bombay High Court, will assume charge after the transfer of the incumbent Chief Justice. Her appointment has been made under Article 217 of the Constitution, which empowers the President of India to appoint Chief Justices of High Courts.

Her elevation is part of a wider reshuffle in the higher judiciary involving several High Courts across the country. The outgoing Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Soumen Sen, has been transferred to the Kerala High Court, where he will take over following the retirement of Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9, 2026.

Justice Sen’s transfer has been effected under Article 222 of the Constitution, which allows the transfer of High Court judges after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.

In another significant development, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office.

The notifications regarding the appointments and transfers were issued by the Appointments Division of the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice. The orders were signed by Jagannath Srinivasan, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, and issued from the ministry’s Jaisalmer House offices in New Delhi.

The latest judicial appointments and transfers are part of routine administrative measures aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of constitutional courts across the country.
