A couple of actors Unapologetically proud dog parents are Priya Banerjee and Prateik Smita Patil. The pair talked to us on International Dog Day about their two cherished pets, Rocco, a Dogo Argentino, and Chico, a Pakistani Bully, and how having them has influenced their relationship, outlook on life, and sense of duty. Chico spent his early years in Goa at one of the actor’s eateries before joining Prateik in 2017 as a Christmas present from a friend. When Prateik eventually took him back to Mumbai in 2021, he immediately became the center of their family.
In contrast, Rocco’s arrival was a fortunate break. One day we were browsing photos when this adorable puppy arrived at our house a month later. He selected us, even though it seemed like we didn’t choose him. He immediately became a member of the family. It wasn’t coercion; it was fate. Priya adds, “It felt like Rocco saved us—like he brought something we didn’t realize was missing.” A couple named Prateik and Priya’s existence is centered around their dogs, Chico and Rocco, who provide them joy, fulfillment, and meaning.
With Rocco going to Priya for excitement and Chico going to Prateik for play, they naturally divide up the parenting responsibilities. Additionally, the dogs serve as a spiritual link, providing solace during difficult times. Since every creature requires a forever home, the pair says adoption is a better alternative than purchasing pets for future additions. They encourage people to adopt dogs from shelters because it is the purest expression of love and denounce the unlawful, uncontrolled, and cruel breeding industry in India.
