No LPG shortage in Meghalaya, minister urges public not to panic buy

The Meghalaya government has assured citizens that there is no shortage of LPG in the state and that adequate supplies are available to meet the needs of the public. Addressing the media during a briefing, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Methodius Dkhar clarified that the current supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) remains stable across Meghalaya. The minister stated that the government is closely monitoring the distribution network and coordinating with LPG suppliers to ensure uninterrupted availability.

He emphasized that rumours about a possible shortage have created unnecessary concern among residents. “People should not panic or rush to purchase additional cylinders,” Dkhar said, adding that the state has sufficient LPG stock to cater to the regular demand of households and commercial consumers. He further appealed to the public to avoid panic buying, which can create artificial shortages and disrupt the smooth supply chain. According to the minister, district authorities and concerned departments are keeping a close watch on LPG distribution points to ensure fair and proper supply.

The government also warned that strict action may be taken against anyone spreading misinformation about LPG availability. Officials have reassured that all authorized distributors are being supplied regularly and there is no reason for the public to worry. The state government urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate by purchasing LPG only as per their normal requirement, ensuring that supplies remain steady for everyone across Meghalaya.
