NESTI Expo 2025 showcases innovation, handicrafts, and ccience at NEHU Shillong

The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, became a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity as it hosted the first-ever NESTI Expo 2025 — a Science and Technology Mega Exhibition supported by the Government of India and the Government of Meghalaya. Inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, the grand event witnessed the presence of senior IAS officers, officials from various ministries, leading scientists, and representatives from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and NESAC (North Eastern Space Applications Centre). The three-day expo featured over 200 stalls set up by departments from the Government of India, various state governments, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and several research and academic institutions. The primary aim of the expo was to provide scientific exposure, knowledge sharing, and technological awareness among students, researchers, and the general public.

It also served as a platform to encourage innovation, promote indigenous skills, and highlight the role of science and technology in sustainable development. In his keynote address, the Chief Minister appreciated the joint efforts of central and state agencies in organizing such a large-scale event. “NESTI Expo 2025 is a remarkable step toward integrating modern technology with traditional knowledge. It provides young minds the opportunity to experience how science can transform society and strengthen Meghalaya’s future,” he remarked. The exhibition included an impressive mix of science and technology displays, space research demonstrations, and handicraft and handloom exhibits representing the rich cultural heritage of the region. Stalls by ISRO, NESAC, and other national institutions offered insights into satellite technology, AI applications, robotics, renewable energy, and climate science.

Artisans and entrepreneurs from rural Meghalaya showcased eco-friendly innovations, traditional crafts, and sustainable materials, drawing attention to the fusion of technology and tradition. A senior IAS officer highlighted that such initiatives are vital for spreading awareness and building scientific curiosity among youth. “This event connects classrooms to laboratories, and innovation to livelihoods — ensuring that development remains people-centered and knowledge-driven,” the officer stated. Panel discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions on STEM education, digital transformation, and future technologies further enriched the expo. The NESTI Expo 2025 concluded with resounding success, leaving behind a message of progress, inclusivity, and empowerment through knowledge and technology — marking a historic milestone in Meghalaya’s scientific and cultural journey.
