Mothphran Area beautification faces backlash as residents unhappy over project

Residents of the Motphran area have expressed deep disappointment and concern over the lack of government initiative to beautify their locality, despite repeated appeals made in the past. Sharing her views, Suzuki Pariat, a resident of the Mophron area, said the exclusion of Motphran from city beautification efforts has left many locals feeling neglected and disheartened. Pariat recalled that areas such as Police Bazaar and Laitumukhra were beautifully decorated, which made residents of Motphran question why their locality was “left out like that.” She said the sense of neglect has affected not just her but many people in her community, leaving them “very depressed.”

According to Pariat, residents had last year submitted a letter highlighting their concerns, which was signed by respected Sanbor Shullai and forwarded to the Tourism Director. However, no response was received. “After waiting and seeing no sign of action, we stopped giving letters. We were just waiting, hoping something would happen,” she said. With no official intervention forthcoming, locals eventually began taking small initiatives on their own. Still, Pariat questioned why the area continued to be ignored, especially when tourism-related beautification had been successfully carried out in other parts of the city, including Bara Bazaar.

She stressed that Motphran is an important area as many tourists visit the locality, particularly in the mornings, to have food and spend time. Pariat also noted that the area has now become more peaceful, unlike earlier times when activities continued through the night. “Now it’s so quiet and peaceful. Earlier, nobody wanted to come here,” she added. Urging the authorities to act, Pariat said it is still not too late for the government to step in. “If the government wants to, they can still proceed with the work. From my side, I feel the government should take initiative and do something good,” she said. Residents hope that their concerns will finally be addressed and that Motphran will receive the attention it deserves as part of the city’s overall development and tourism promotion.
