
Since early Tuesday, a number of districts in southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, have seen heavy rain, which has caused low-lying regions and highways to get flooded.Up until Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms with strong winds throughout the area.
A low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal caused continuous nocturnal rain, which resulted in waterlogging in several areas of Kolkata, Salt Lake, and Howrah city.
Individuals commuting to work encountered significant difficulties in reaching their destinations this morning due to the persistent rainfall. The public transportation system was also impacted, exacerbating the situation.
According to the IMD, the western districts of Purulia and Jhargram are expected to experience heavy rainfall until Wednesday morning.
The IMD further indicated that light to moderate rain is anticipated in various locations throughout southern West Bengal over the coming days.
Uluberia, located in Howrah district, recorded 111 mm of rainfall, marking the highest amount in the state within a 24-hour period up to 8:30 am. This was closely followed by Dum Dum, which noted 99 mm of rainfall.
Kolkata experienced 81.6 mm of rainfall, while the nearby Salt Lake area received 88.3 mm during the same timeframe.
The IMD predicts several instances of light to moderate rain, with a particularly intense spell expected in the city until Wednesday morning.
