Mission Education IV: 680 new school buildings to be constructed in State

Around 680 new school buildings will be constructed across Meghalaya under the phase-IV of Mission Education, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Thursday. Under the scheme, each school is expected to receive approximately Rs 70 lakh, the minister said while inaugurating a new building of Darrang LP School in Amlarem block in West Jaintia Hills district.

The school building was constructed under Mission Education Phase III. Highlighting development in education infrastructure taken up by the government in the past eight years, Rymbui said several initiatives have been implemented under the Mission Education.

Referring to discussions with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Rymbui said the government had identified four key pillars for rebuilding education – infrastructure, teachers, policy, and students. He also announced that Amlarem constituency is likely to benefit from 8 to 11 new school buildings under the upcoming phase, which is expected to significantly enhance educational facilities in the area.
