Meghalaya secured a vital first-innings lead on the third day at the MCA Ground, giving them the advantage in their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 Plate Group match against Sikkim. Meghalaya outscored Sikkim by 59 runs to 405 all out thanks to a patient batting display. Despite wickets falling often at the other end, their middle-order batter’s double century served as the innings’ fulcrum. Sikkim led by 37 runs after starting their second innings carefully and reaching 96 for 2 by stumps.
Unless Meghalaya’s bowlers can score early and often on the last morning, the match looks to be destined for a draw with one day left. Earlier, Meghalaya’s overnight centurion was out for 102 off the second ball of the day, giving them a setback at the beginning of play. His partner came right after, and Kranthi Kumar took both of the hitters out. He went on to take a remarkable 6 for 86, his maiden five-wicket haul at the senior level. Although there was little assistance from the lower order, one tailender persevered in helping his senior partner accomplish the double-century milestone.
The milestone was eventually reached before the innings concluded, but a moment of misunderstanding at 199 almost led to a run-out. Following two early runs from Akash Chaudhary, Sikkim’s reaction was consistent, with opener Ashish Thapa (49 not out) and K Sai Satwik (19 not out) leading them to the end. Although Sikkim’s present defense indicates a draw is still the more likely outcome, Meghalaya will try to take advantage of the last day to push for victory.
