Meghalaya: Sohra Tourism Circuit foundation stationed to br laud today by Union Minister Scindia

In a significant step towards enhancing tourism infrastructure in Meghalaya, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Minister of Communications, along with Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, tomorrow will lay the foundation stone for the Integrated Development of Sohra Tourism Circuit in Sohra. The event is being organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Ministry of DoNER. It signifies the Union Government’s continued commitment to unlocking the tourism and livelihood potential of the North Eastern Region.

Shri Timothy D. Shira, Minister of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, will also be present on the occasion. The project, worth more than Rs 200 crore funded under the PM-DevINE scheme, aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure, sustainable livelihood opportunities and preserve Sohra’s unique cultural and natural heritage. The project will enhance visitor facilities, promote eco-friendly tourism and create employment avenues for local communities, ensuring that the benefits of tourism growth are inclusive and sustainable.

As part of the foundation ceremony, the dignitaries will visit stalls showcasing local crafts and enterprises and interact with entrepreneurs, artisans and tourism stakeholders, reinforcing the Government’s focus on community-led tourism development. A public programme and media interaction will also be held to highlight the project’s transformative impact on Meghalaya’s tourism landscape. On 2nd November 2025, the Shri Scindia will continue with a visit to the Mawmluh Cave, known globally for its geo-tourism significance. Later in the day, the Minister will visit Guwahati, Assam, where he is scheduled to inaugurate several key DoNER projects and visit IIT Guwahati.
