In a major development in the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, his wife and the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been brought back to Meghalaya and is currently lodged at the Shillong Sadar Police Station under a three-day transit remand. The shocking case has drawn attention due to its grisly details and the interstate involvement of multiple suspects.
Sonam was taken to Ganesh Das Hospital on Tuesday morning for a routine medical check-up, as per standard procedure. Police officials have confirmed that she is being thoroughly interrogated about her movements before and after the alleged murder of her husband. Investigators are particularly looking into whether she travelled from Indore to Ghazipur before being discovered alone near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. Four other accused in the case — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand — have also been brought to the Northeast. They arrived at Guwahati airport in police custody after Shillong Police secured a seven-day transit remand. They are likely to be presented before a court in Shillong soon, where the police will request further remand for detailed questioning.
In a significant lead, the police have recovered clothes reportedly worn by Vishal Singh Chauhan on the day of the murder. These items are being sent for forensic analysis, which could provide vital evidence in the investigation. The body of Raja Raghuvanshi, who had recently tied the knot with Sonam, was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Sohra, close to Cherrapunji. The discovery sent shockwaves across the region, especially as the crime appears to involve a carefully coordinated effort spanning several states. Authorities say they are leaving no stone unturned as they try to piece together the timeline and motive behind the murder. The case, due to its disturbing nature and cross-state involvement, is being closely monitored by senior officials.
