Meghalaya HC Urges Release of ₹6 Crore for Shillong Road Repairs Before Monsoon

The High Court of Meghalaya has expressed hope that the state government will release over ₹6 crore for permanent repairs of damaged roads in Nongrammar and Laitumkhrah, Shillong, before the onset of the monsoon.
Hearing a petition on Tuesday, the court noted that temporary repairs had been carried out, making the roads motorable. A report submitted by the Additional Advocate General, along with photographs, showed immediate steps taken by authorities. The bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh observed that departments such as PHE and SMB were also informed to fix damaged water lines during the repair work.
An official letter from the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), sought ₹6.65 crore for permanent restoration. While the government indicated that sanctioning funds may take time, the court said it expects the amount to be released before the monsoon. The petition was subsequently disposed of.
Separately, the state has invited tenders for a ₹6.88 crore rehabilitation project on a 2.28-km stretch of the Shillong-Diengpasoh Road, with a 24-month completion timeline.
