
C.H. Vijayashankar, the governor of Meghalaya, gave the customary “At Home” reception at Raj Bhavan in Shillong on the 76th Republic Day. Dignitaries, officials, and esteemed individuals from a variety of sectors came together to celebrate unity and national pride at the event. The Flower Show, which has grown to be a significant annual event at Raj Bhavan, saw its winners presented with honors by Governor Vijayashankar. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and cultural performances from many states added even greater significance to the occasion.
The Governor expressed gratitude to everyone who came and took part in the Republic Day festivities, recognizing their contributions to their success. He emphasized the importance of Republic Day as a reminder of the timeless values of the Constitution. On January 26, Manipur had a large procession in Kangla to commemorate the 76th Republic Day. The celebration was conducted by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who also accepted the salute. 86 groups participated in the parade, including floats from various government ministries, police units, and cultural artists.
For their contribution, eight Manipur police personnel were awarded President’s medals. Laishram Chaoba Singh, Naorem Seilendra Singh, Sorokhaibam Santosh Singh, Khaidem Chandra Singh, Lenpu Kom, Lamthianson Chongloi, and Athokpam Tej Singh were awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service, while Sorokhaibam Rudranarayan Singh was recognized with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
