Meghalaya CM Stresses Infrastructure Push for Inclusive Growth

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma underscored the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, especially in rural and forest regions, during the “Our Magnificent Vision 2032 | Meghalaya” program in Baghmara, South Garo Hills. Highlighting his visits to the area over the past eight years, he reaffirmed his dedication to the district’s growth, acknowledging that while not all aspirations have been met, significant developmental efforts have been made. The celebration marked eight years of the MDA government’s initiatives aimed at enhanced service delivery and sustainable infrastructure as part of their Vision 2032 roadmap.

Sangma provided an overview of key investments and projects in South Garo Hills, detailing funding in sectors such as public health (₹354 crore), education (₹235 crore), and tourism (₹90 crore), with community-based tourism supported by ₹3.16 crore through the homestay program. Other notable programs included ₹5.7 crore for CM Elevate, ₹7.18 crore for Green Meghalaya, and ₹11.24 crore for FOCUS+.

The total infrastructure investment in the district exceeded ₹2,144 crore, with the Greater Baghmara Water Supply Scheme Phase II set to advance with ₹140 crore allocated by the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region. Sangma asserted that the district’s development projects surpass ₹5,000 crore, transforming South Garo Hills from what was regarded as the most neglected district to a sought-after area. During the event, he also facilitated the distribution of incentives under the Green Meghalaya and FOCUS+ programs, awarding substantial benefits to beneficiaries and showcasing experience-sharing efforts.
