KSU apprehends 2 Bangladeshi nationals in EJH, alleges police of trying to shield touts

The Narpuh Circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals near Dona School, NH 6 along the international border with Bangladesh in East Jaintia Hills District. A statement issued here informed that the KSU activists promptly handed the individuals over to the Umkiang Police Patrolling Post for further investigation.

According to the KSU, the two men were part of a larger group of Bangladeshi migrants seeking illegal entry into India. On being interrogated, the two apprehended persons revealed that they were being guided by two touts—one Indian and one Bangladeshi—who had not been apprehended.

However, the KSU alleged that officials from the Umkiang Police Post attempted to prevent the activists from reporting the incident, effectively concealing the illegal entry from the public. The activists claim this action was aimed at shielding the brokers involved in the facilitation of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.
