Jayant Chaudhary launches North East Apprenticeship Pilot to boost youth skilling and employment

In a significant step toward empowering youth and fostering inclusive regional development, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma jointly launched the North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme in Aizawl on Tuesday.

The scheme, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, aims to provide structured and paid apprenticeship opportunities to over 26,000 youth from the North East. Beneficiaries will receive an additional ₹1,500 per month for a year, apart from the regular stipend under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). A total of ₹43.94 crore has been allocated, including ₹4 crore for outreach and implementation.

Minister Chaudhary called it a “defining moment” that bridges education and employment, particularly highlighting the region’s leadership in women-led skilling. Chief Minister Lalduhoma underscored Mizoram’s high literacy and heritage skills as key strengths. The pilot also includes a textile sector tie-up with Welspun and a presentation on the ₹60,000 crore ITI upgradation plan, reinforcing the Centre’s push for a skilled and future-ready India.
