‘ISIS-K’ Poster Threat: CoMSO Demands Investigation by Central Authorities

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has called for a central investigation into a purported threat attributed to ISIS-K against the Garo people, which demands their evacuation by 2027. In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CoMSO chairman Roykupar Synrem emphasized the need for immediate action from central counterterrorism and intelligence agencies. He requested a thorough investigation into the origins, intentions, and networks associated with this threat. Additionally, Synrem urged for enhanced intelligence gathering and a more visible presence of security forces in areas deemed vulnerable, aiming to boost public confidence. He insisted on the prompt arrest and prosecution of anyone involved, advocating for strict enforcement of anti-terror and national security laws. The memorandum highlighted the necessity to review border security protocols, monitor and dismantle radical propaganda channels, and protect the rights of indigenous communities and their land. Synrem characterized the emergence of this threat as a significant risk to internal security, communal harmony, and indigenous rights, asserting that references to a notorious terrorist group like ISIS-K must be taken seriously.
