
The Department of Economics, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with the Society for Pathways to Sustainability (PathS), the Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD), Guwahati, and the ICSSR–North Eastern Regional Centre, Shillong, inaugurated a two-day International Conference on “Sustainable Development: Theory, Practice, Approach and Policy” today at NEHU, Shillong. The inaugural function, held at Raj Bhavan, was graced by the Governor of Meghalaya, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event brought together eminent scholars, policymakers, and researchers to deliberate on key aspects of sustainability in theory and practice.
Following the inaugural session, Prof. A. C. Mohapatra, Retired Professor of Geography, NEHU, delivered the highlighting the intricate balance between environmental conservation and socio-economic growth. The session also featured a Panel Discussion on “Sustainable Development and the North East India: Challenges and Opportunities” where experts discussed pathways to promote inclusive and region-specific sustainable policies. The conference aims to foster dialogue and collaboration towards achieving sustainable development goals in the North Eastern region and beyond.
