Expert Panel’s Report on Job Reservation Policy to Be Tabled in Meghalaya Assembly in Feb

The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday decided to table the report of the Expert Committee on the Meghalaya State Job Reservation Policy, 1972, during the upcoming Budget Session of the Assembly, likely to be held from February 16 to 27. Speaking after the Cabinet meeting as part of the 3rd Cabinet Retreat at Orchid Resort, Mawkasiang, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the report was discussed and it was agreed that it should be placed before the Assembly. The government has proposed to the Governor to convene the Budget Session from mid-February, and the dates will be formalised after approval. Sangma said it would not be appropriate to disclose the contents of the report before it is tabled in the House. Earlier, the Chief Minister had said the report has been thoroughly reviewed by officials and is ready for discussion. The Cabinet approved the recipients of the Meghalaya Day Awards 2026. The U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature will be conferred on noted poet, writer and translator Dr Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih.


The Pa Togan N. Sangma Award for Social Services will be awarded to Rev. Fr. Benoy Joseph for his role in building the Muktidata Multipurpose Co-operative Society, Tikrikilla. Riiohlang Dhar has been approved for the U Kiang Nangbah Award for Sports and Games after securing a place on the FIFA Refereeing International List for 2026. The awards will be presented during the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. The Cabinet further approved the introduction of Community Integrated Skill Learning as part of the structured curriculum for Classes VI to X, aiming to promote practical education and stronger community engagement. In another education-related decision, the Cabinet approved a provision allowing private candidates to appear for the SSLC examination under the Meghalaya Board of School Education, giving a second chance to students who had earlier dropped out or failed to clear the Class X exam.
