
In view of the developing situation in Assam-Meghalaya border areas the office of the district wagistrate West Jaintia Hills district has promulgated night curfew with immediate affect in a notification, the DM office said, “There is likelihood of breach of law and order which may endanger to human lives and properties. Whereas, I am of the opinion that such illegal, undesirable activities should be prevented in order to maintain peace and tranquillity in the entire Assam-Meghalaya border areas. Now, therefore, I Shri. Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS, District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under section 163 BNSS do hereby impose night curfew from 6 PM up to 10 AM in the entire Assam-Meghalaya border areas within the district prohibiting the following.”
The order prohibits, movement of people at the entire Assam-Meghalaya border areas within the district. It also prohibits unauthorised procession or unlawful assembly of 5 (five) or more persons, carrying or display any object made or adapted to be used as weapons or any instrument which could reasonably be used to injure intimidate or create public disorder in and around the entire Assam-Meghalaya border areas. “In view of the urgency of the matter, this order is passed ex-parte and shall come into force with immediate effect and until further orders,” the order stated.
