Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated multiple development projects at Umsning Football Ground, Patarim on Monday, focusing on growth in the Ri Bhoi district. Key initiatives included the Ri Bhoi Silk Dream: E-Rise, aimed at enhancing Eri rearing, innovation, spinning, and empowerment, along with the foundation laying for Umsning Mini Stadium and the distribution of assets under Project Aspire-FILO app-based coaching. During his speech, Sangma reflected on his interaction with the residents of Umsning in November 2025, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in driving governmental change and development. He highlighted a successful training program in fisheries that resulted from a local suggestion, benefiting over 1600 fish farmers.

In terms of support for local agriculture, Sangma noted that there are more than 7000 eri cocoon farmers and weavers in Ri Bhoi. The government plans to assist 1200 households in 22 clusters across 5 blocks with financial aid of approximately Rs 30,000 each, supported by a total investment of Rs 4.61 crore. This initiative aims to significantly enhance cocoon production, create yarn for better returns, promote rural employment, and improve local infrastructure, with the potential to yield Rs 10 crore annually for the beneficiaries.

Moreover, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of the E-RISE initiative in addressing bottlenecks in the silk production value chain, positioning Ri Bhoi as a national leader in organic and sustainable silk. He expressed pride in the recognition of local products, citing an instance where the Finance Minister of India wore a saree made of eri silk from Meghalaya. Additionally, the establishment of the Umsning Mini Stadium, which includes natural football turf, a covered gallery, side drains, and chain-link fencing, was presented as a long-term need for the community, with total project costs amounting to Rs 4.71 crore. The event concluded with the distribution of E-RISE machines, nets, and MSSDS training certificates to the beneficiaries and fish farmers.
